Supporting Non-Duality and Awakening in Asheville and Beyond

Vulnerable or Machismo?
© 2009 Howard McQueen

To be vulnerable
is to be yielding,
unprovoked
unwilling to interfere (enter the fear of or for another).

To not take the bait,
fail to validate,
not even mimic
the mainstream
habitual machismos:

- putting on armor or weaponry
- hardening the heart
- becoming distant from our natural vulnerabilities

Some may call this dispassionate or disengaged,
hurl the names, sissy, cry baby, or downright spineless coward.
These some are always looking to provoke a reaction,
to join the crowd, cast the first stone, become a lynching mob.

A growing few are resting
in the deep seated-ness of peace,
no longer troubled by the accumulated
anxious and aggressive energies
being reflected and projected around in the world.

Beneath this surface nose and agony
is the subtler ecstasy
of evolution’s momentum,
the constant cycle of birthing, living and dying.
In the service of evolution, everything is used, nothing is wasted.
